Abstract

This work was carried out with the objective of studying the relationship of “coffee rust leaf” with some characteristics of coffee plantations in the Peruvian jungle. In total, 1023 samples of coffee leaves were taken from the northern jungle (n=318), central jungle (n=439) and southern jungle (n=266) in which the severity of the rust was evaluated. On each farm, data on altitude, cultivated variety, age of the plantation and production system (conventional or organic) were taken. For each coffee-growing area, an Analysis of Variance was carried out to know the effect of altitude, varieties, plantation age and production systems on the severity of the disease. In each coffee-growing area, the altitude levels varied, as well as the cultivated varieties, the age of plantation and the use of production systems. The severity differs between cultivated varieties and in some cases this difference was statistically significant. It also changes with the age of plantation, a difference that can also be significant; also, the severity was significantly higher in the organic production system, compared to the conventional production system. It also varies between the different altitudinal levels and in some cases, this difference is statistically significant.
