Asociación entre ingreso hospitalario en fines de semana y mortalidad intrahospitalaria: evidencia del sistema público chileno.

El estudio analiza la asociación entre el ingreso hospitalario durante fines de semana y la mortalidad intrahospitalaria en Chile, considerando 899.770 egresos del sistema público en 2004. Se utiliza un modelo de regresión logística ajustado por edad, sexo, comorbilidades, urgencia, condición migrante y complejidad clínica (GRD). Los resultados muestran que los ingresos de fin de semana aumentan en un 9% la probabilidad de fallecimiento respecto a días hábiles, evidenciando un “weekend - effect” moderado. Factores como comorbilidades preexistentes y urgencia del ingreso presentan impactos mayores en la mortalidad. El estudio sugiere que, aunque las diferencias no reflejan necesariamente fallas operativas, plantean desafíos en continuidad asistencial y equidad temporal, destacando la importancia de ajustes por severidad y planificación de recursos hospitalarios.
