Minimum Standards

Submissions to Estudios Avanzados (EstuDAv) must be prepared according to the following guidelines:

Format and Font

• Page size: Letter (8.5 x 11 in / 21.59 x 27.94 cm)

• Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides

• Single line spacing; no indentation of any kind

• Times New Roman 12 pt for the main body of the text

• Times New Roman 10 pt for footnotes

Title and Subtitles

• Main Title:

  • Centered

  • Bold, Times New Roman 16 pt

  • Recommended maximum: sixteen words

  • Leave one blank line after the title

• Level 1 Subtitles:

  • Left-aligned, unnumbered, bold, Times New Roman 12 pt

  • Leave one blank line before and after

• Level 2 Subtitles:

  • Left-aligned, unnumbered, italic, Times New Roman 12 pt

  • Leave one blank line before and after

Bold and Italics

Avoid using bold and italics in the main body of the text.
Italics should be reserved only for foreign-language expressions.

Abstract and Keywords

All articles, critical essays, and interviews must include:

• An abstract of no more than 200 words

• Four to five keywords

• Submitted in Spanish (or Portuguese) and English

• Both abstract and keywords must appear on the first page, at the beginning of the manuscript

Citations

All citations must follow the APA 7th edition style.

• Short quotations (fewer than 40 words):

  • Enclosed in quotation marks, included within the paragraph

  • Followed by parentheses with author’s last name, year, and page number

  • Example: “Direct quote” (LastName, year, p. page).

• Long quotations (over 40 words):

  • Set in a separate paragraph, without quotation marks

  • Indented 1.27 cm from the left margin

  • End with a parenthetical reference: (LastName, year, p. page).

• Paraphrasing:

  • No quotation marks or page numbers required

  • Include author’s last name and year in parentheses: (LastName, year).

  • If the author is named in the sentence, only include the year in parentheses at the end.

• Two authors:

  • Use “&” in narrative citations: LastName & LastName (year)

• More than three authors:

  • Use et al. after the first author’s last name

  • Narrative: LastName et al. (year)

  • Parenthetical: (LastName et al., year, p. page)

References

• All cited or paraphrased sources must appear in the bibliography

• Do not include uncited material

• Follow APA 7th edition formatting

• Organize entries alphabetically by author’s last name

• Place the bibliography at the end of the article
